Through Hurricane Ike Jesus Reminds Us To Love Everyone

In the face of Hurricane Ike, as we sit about 60 miles from the projected landfall point (click here to see where we are near Conroe, Texas), these scriptures seem appropos:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Matthew 5:43-48.

Please pray for everyone in the Houston, Galveston area and for all those who will be immediately impacted by the fury of Hurricane Ike. Pray that water and electric supplies and aren’t interrupted. Pray that lives are spared. Pray that people will see the glory of God through this storm. Pray that the Body of Christ will be united to serve everyone who has need because of the storm and that as a result people will see the truth of Who Christ Is. John 17. Pray for the civic and regional leaders as they make decisions about how to govern through this storm. 1 Timothy 2:1-4. Ask God how to pray for this situation – and do it!
