Eventful Day

We’ve now been home for three full days. We still are waking up in the middle of the night and unable to go back to sleep. The good news for me is that on Tuesdays and Thursdays I play basketball with a group of guys at 5 a.m. So, this morning I just got up and took off for basketball. I was halfway through my first game when someone made a pass that I knew I could steal. I slashed for the ball. Meanwhile, the intended recipient did the same and somewhere in the collision, between ball, me, and the other guy, my middle finger split wide open at the third digit on my palm. The cold water and soap felt lovely.

I taped it all up and tried to return to the court. Silly boy thing to do. As soon as I took one dribble blood began gushing forth through two bandaids and layers of tape. I realized then that I would need stitches. I wasn’t done, however. I ran to Wal-Mart and tried the liquid bandaid stuff. Ha. It would be good for a paper cut, but not for a gaping split in the thick skin of the underside of your dominant hand’s middle finger.

Anyway, enough of the hand. More importantly, today both of our boys, Tanner, 8, and Keaton, 6, started their first day of school. Tanner returns to his old school, Root Elementary, and is now a 3rd grader. Keaton, however, who has only gone to public school in England, couldn’t be taken at Root because of over crowding. As a result, we took Tanner to school to settle him in and then had to drive Keaton to Butterfield Trail Elementary to go to his first class as a First Grader. That’s fun stuff. Both boys were very nervous but it went very well.

Tara and I had a lovely day planned because Regan spent the night with Tara’s mom and dad (Mamaw and Papaw). Thus, we thought after we dropped off the boys we would have our first full day to ourselves in six months. Another laugh. The next couple of hours were dedicated to taking my lousy split finger to the walk-in clinic. Praise God for friends, however, who happen to be doctors and who take care of such things with excellent care and generosity.

It was lunch time by the time we were free (trip to pharmacy and all), so we grabbed a quick bite and were then exhausted from waking in the middle of the night. Tara is now trying to nap after only sleeping three hours last night and I’m trying to ignore the fact that the lidocaine is long worn off as I type less one finger.

Please pray for our boys as they adjust to yet another class at another school.
